Artisan Café opened its doors in Vuorikatu in Helsinki in the summer of 2016. The core of the roastery’s operations is to bring customers the most comprehensive coffee experience possible and to strive for the purest possible flavours.

Many of us have a memory of when and where the love for coffee started. For Jani Mikkonen, the founder of Artisan, it was almost 30 years ago, when his grandmothers freshly ground coffee filled the room with a delicious aroma. It won over everything and left such a strong memory that he will never forget that day. Since then, they have been on a trip towards better coffee experiences.

Pure flavours and comprehensive coffee experiences

Artisan Café opened its doors in Vuorikatu in Helsinki in the summer of 2016. The core of the roastery’s operations is to bring customers the most comprehensive coffee experience possible and to strive for the purest possible flavours and the best end results possible. It was clear from the start that artisan would open a roastery because it was not enough to just brew the coffee well. They wanted to know the whole journey of the coffee — from plant to cup. Artisan started roasting in Lauttasaari, Helsinki in 2017 and when the roasting practice grew, they moved to Pitäjänmäki in the spring of 2019.

Artisan has always strived for the best, which can be seen in three consecutive Finnish Brewers Cup championships. The same ideology can be found at the roastery side as well. They only use coffees that meet the set criteria in regards to flavour and ethical and ecological matters. Artisan supports small producers and wants to support their livelihoods by properly paying for the coffee and their work. All used coffees are organically produced. Our coffees are also mostly bought from farms we have actually visited.

Artisan roaster

Space for the coffee’s characteristic flavours

Artisan coffees are clean, sweet and complex in their flavours. They are interesting and stay in your mind. The roasts are light because they want the characteristic flavours of the coffee to shine without the roasty flavours.

Artisan has been at the forefront of third-wave coffee since the beginning, but they are looking forward even further all the time. In the spring of 2020, they launched their first fourth-wave coffee combining extremely high quality, transparency and sustainable production.

Coffee is our passion and we will keep on doing our uncompromising work with it so that everyone can enjoy unique coffee experiences.

Artisan is partnered up with Slurp on SLURP original and Rare coffee experiences.
