In autumn 2019, Matthew and Kevin – two Humanitarian Logistics students – met over a cup of coffee in their university canteen to discuss their Master’s degree studies and life. After a few cups of coffee, the topic turned to the limited options in Helsinki to enjoy specialty coffee. With this conversation, the seed of Dash Coffee was planted in their minds.
By paying too low prices, the coffee industry is at least partly responsible for human rights issues such as poverty, child labour, poor working conditions and environmental damage in producing countries. This is why Kevin and Matthew wanted to take matters into their own hands. By travelling directly to the source, they wanted to build relationships with farmers, see how good coffee is grown, and pay farmers a fair price for the top quality coffee they produce.
