This Colombian coffee comes directly from the Colombian Acevedo, Huila region. Luis Collazos’ coffee farm, La Bermeo, is located at an altitude of 1,600 metres and covers nine hectares, six of which are planted with castillo and F6 coffee trees. Luis and his family grow their coffee in a traditional, sustainable way. The traditional method is to use the dried pulp of the coffee as a natural fertiliser and as a supplement to the fertiliser used in agriculture. At harvest time, the Collazos family is assisted by 12 pickers, but otherwise the coffee farm is run entirely by the family. Oranges, peaches, lemons and tangerines grow on the property – the fruit helps keep the soil moist and adds its own nuance to the coffee beans the farm produces. Luis is a second generation coffee farmer, having inherited the farm from his parents 20 years ago. Luis and his wife have been married for 30 years, and the eldest of seven children, the son, is keen to continue the family farm. In addition to the generational change, Luis’ simple goal is to continually develop and improve his coffee farming – to produce ever better quality coffee.
