The story of Sakami began with Gloria and four other women: Susan, Dr. Rosabella, Jane and Mary Tonje. These five progressive women committed to offering their very best and to grow coffee with the people from the region and to find a way to empower the farmers that have been chained to underpaid jobs for generations. Coffee grows intermingled with macadamia, avocado, dairy, and vegetables. Gloria’s coffee is reaching exciting corners of the world, and with it, the reputation of Kenya and women in coffee has positively spread. She works very closely with all farmers in the area, encouraging them to grow their own trees and taste their coffee. Besides managing the estates, she’s keeping herself busy these days planning, with the support of the government, a nursery for small children near her estate to support single working moms.
