From Peru’s Amazon region comes the Guacamayo, a coffee grown by women in the Jumarp cooperative. The coffee has a cocoa-like, nutty flavour with an apple-like acidity. The Asociación de Productores Cafetaleros Juan Marco El Palto (Jumarp) is doing groundbreaking work to promote coffee farming in Peru’s barren regions, and the cooperative’s El Palto Mujer programme supports community equality. The cooperative noticed that women are often excluded from decision-making, which is why this programme was created to increase gender equality and promote women’s economic and social empowerment.
