Luis Orlando Julon Olano owns “El Pate” farm, located in the caserío La Palma, Jaén district, Cajamarca region, at an altitude of 1950 masl. The 6-hectare plot was donated by his parents, with 3 hectares dedicated to coffee (2 in production and 1 growing). He started coffee farming 10 years ago, following his family’s tradition. The coffee is stored in his home and wastewater is channeled into a designated pit. Temporary workers are hired during harvest season, and the farm also grows yuca and a herb called plantain. No pest control measures are used on the farm, other than pruning if required.
