Finca Tamana landed in Finland at the roastery Turun Kahvipaahtimo delivered by Nordic Approach, who are a Norwegian company specialising in sourcing and distributing high quality green beans. They identify and select the coffees they supply with exceedingly high criteria. They believe that the transparency of the whole production chain and better premiums to the producers for their coffee is the only way to achieve a sustainable production of high quality coffees.
Finca Tamana is located in the mountains close to El Pital, Huila. The local weather is constantly changing and it rains almost daily. The area’s coffees have generally a clear, citrusy acidity, rich with berrylike flavours and juicy from their mouthfeel. Nevertheless, it is difficult to gain large amounts of evenly high quality green beans from the area, because the farms are less than 2 hectares on average. Finca Tamana has a farming area of 63 hectares, which led to Nordic Approach co-operating with the farmer Elias Ronas of Finca Tamana.
The first coffees picked for Nordic Apporach were picked in the summer of 2012. Since then, Nordic Approach has funded extensive improvements on the farm: improved picking, sorting technique and a more efficient washing station with a better drying process to boot. Improvements keep on taking place and the quality of the coffees is getting better all the time.
For the roastery Turun Kahvipaahtimo, this is the fourth batch of Finca Tamana. The coffee is roasted to excellence so that the intensive flavour is dominated by dark stone fruits delivered by a pleasant acidity.
