Burundi Yandaro comes from near the Rwandan border, an area with excellent conditions for farming high quality coffee. The local washing station is named after a river in the area and it is a part of Greco, a bigger cooperative of washing stations. Yandaro is surrounded by the Kibira rainforest, which offers a rich ecosystem for farming coffee. The Yandaro washing station is used by a combined 3500 local smallholders, whose farms are located on the hills surrounding Yandaro.
The Greenco cooperative invests in educating their farmers as well as improving the farms’ cultivation methods. This can be noticed in the taste of the coffee, as Burundi Yandaro’s cupping score is 88. Kaffe Obscura’s refined roast highlights the berries and raisins in the coffees flavour.
